Woody Allen blows his horn for the love of jazz :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: People
Woody Allen blows his horn for the love of jazz :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: People: “That’s why Allen surrounds himself with top-notch musicians in his New Orleans Jazz Band. “They’re sensational,” Allen says of his bandmates. “I, of course, am in over my head.” They play almost every Monday night at New York City’s Carlyle Hotel, and did a short U.S. tour last year before heading to Europe.”

Review: As a musician, Woody’s a magician in lively Phil concert» Naples Daily News
Review: As a musician, Woody’s a magician in lively Phil concert» Naples Daily News: “Although the event was billed as ‘Woody Allen & His New Orleans Jazz Band,’ one gets the feeling that the band is a true equal partnership. No one musician is more important — even if he does have an Oscar — than the rest. Each of the other musicians, in true New Orleans band form, was allowed to shine, playing solos in almost every song. Several band members also lent their voices to some of the songs, including Zigmont singing ‘Over in the Gloryland’ and drummer Gill’s fun rendition of ‘Aba Daba Honeymoon.’”

Jazz man Woody Allen plays music purely for pleasure | Palm Beach Entertainment: Events, movies, restaurants, nightlife & more | pbpulse.com: “‘I have no illusions about my playing,’ Allen says, when asked about his band, with whom he plays clarinet each week at New York’s Carlyle Hotel, and with whom he’s traveled the world. (The documentary Wild Man Blues follows one of their European tours.)
‘The guys in the band are sensational, and could play anywhere without impunity. They carry me along. I get by on the fact that I’m a celebrity from the movies,’ he says. ‘That cuts me a lot of slack. I’m enthusiastic over (music) and dedicated to it, but I have no real gift for it.’”
